Description
Have you ever wanted to learn how to capture the natural world in paint and drawing materials? In this weekend workshop we will explore the basics of how to use paint and basic drawing materials to more accurately capture the feeling of nature, while also building our technical painting and drawing skills. Topics covered include technique, colour theory and composition. We will also be exploring how to paint and draw from real life plants, and if weather permits some fundamentals of en plein air painting and outdoor sketching will be explored.
Instructor: Kate Brooks-Heinimann is a contemporary painter living and working on Lekwungen Territory. Kate’s paintings have been exhibited throughout British Columbia and Alberta and she has completed multiple artwork commissions within Canada and the United States.
Kate was awarded scholarships to Parks Canada’s Art in the Park Artist Residency and the Metchosin International Summer School of the Arts Mentored Studio Residency. She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts from Emily Carr University of Art and Design, and previously completed her Certificate of Visual Art at the Vancouver Island School of Art. Kate recently completed her Bachelor of Education in visual art at the University of Victoria, and is currently a public school art teacher. Learn more about Kate in the instructor tab.
