First Colouring Contest

McTavish Academy Of Art is excited to announce our first colouring contest. The seasons are changing, schedules are filling up but it is important that we all take some time for creative outlets. Grab some pencil crayons, felts, paints or pastels and throw some colour around. Let your imagination run wild.

We teamed up with an amazing local artist, Lindsay K who has created both images for this contest. Please select one below. You can print the image yourself or pick one up at MAOA. All submissions must be dropped off at the front desk of MAOA (1720 Mctavish Rd, North Saanich) by October 31st. Click here for directions

This contest is a 19+ contest! Far to often as we start “growing up” we forget to put time aside for the simple pleasures like… Colouring! We want to encourage you set some time aside over the coming month.

Learn More about Featured Artist Lindsay K

We were excited to team up with Lindsay K for this colouring contest and share the two images that she has created. Learn More about Lindsay K below and check out here website, Instagram or Facebook to check out more our her diverse collection of works.

Lindsay was born and raised in Calgary, Alberta. At the age of 18, she moved to Victoria to attend the University of Victoria, where she received a Bachelors in Fine Arts: Majoring in History in Art, and Minoring in Visual Arts.

Ever since she was a little girl, Lindsay has loved nature, animals, and the cosmos. This more recent collection of her works demonstrate these passions.

While attending the University of Victoria, Lindsay became very interested in studying landscape paintings from Imperial China, as well as paintings depicting the wild and beautiful “English Landscape Gardens” from the 18th and 19th centuries. Lindsay has also found inspiration from more recent artists, such as Bob Ross, Robert Bateman, Georgia O’Keeffe, as well as local artists Joe Coffey and Mark Adamson.

Lindsay is largely a self-taught artist, but is constantly learning and developing her art. Lindsay has attended a few courses at the University of Victoria pertaining to the visual arts, including acrylic painting and drawing. More recently, she attended an oil painting course in Calgary taught by accomplished oil painter, Shawn Barber.

After graduating from UVic in 2010, Lindsay became an apprentice to local tattoo artist and oil painter Mark Adamson, or “Sparky”, where she has developed her art extensively because of the hundreds of clients she designs custom tattoos for each year.

Lindsay believes that she will never stop learning and improving her art. There is always inspiration to be drawn from a simple experience, and an emotion that goes with it. Lindsay will continue to paint subject matters that are near and dear to her heart, and hopes to do commission paintings for clients who are interested in having a piece of art that represents something special to them.
