You don’t need to travel to exotic places to take great landscape photographs. In this class you will learn to connect with whatever landscape you find yourself in and explore scenes small and large to create meaningful images which tell your story. We will discuss how to approach the landscape without preconception and be in the best mental state to create impactful photographs. You will be taught how to understand, anticipate and follow light as an important focus when taking photographs. Composition will also be a major topic of this class with discussion of compositional balance and flow being the main focus.

We will also spend time discussing digital landscape techniques and how to use the flexibility we have both in in the field and in post processing to visualize and create stunning images that capture the imagination and express your vision.

Instructor:

Michael Murchison is primarily a landscape photographer, born in Saskatchewan but now working from Victoria, B.C. He has been shooting landscapes since 2016 when he rekindled a lifelong passion of looking at the world through the lens of his camera. Not a formally trained photographer, he has learned most of his craft by reading, using internet training and most importantly looking at the work of other talented photographers. His landscape photography focuses on finding the extra-ordinary in the ordinary, often shooting more intimate scenes he sees when he is exploring the world around him. A well-known and respected photographer, he has presented with local camera clubs in both Saskatchewan and Victoria and has a passion both for his photography and sharing his knowledge with others.
