Instructor:
Originally from Ontario, Laura Evans moved to Vancouver Island in late 2020. She has BA in Indigenous Studies from Trent University, and is self-taught in her art practice, using curiosity as a compass to navigate and motivate learning. Laura is passionate about creativity beyond the boundaries of medium, style and genre. With years of varied experience with art instruction and studio management, Laura is excited to delve into and create with the vibrant community of MAOA.

While versed in a variety of visual mediums, Laura’s favourite medium for her own work is usually pen and ink. She is a seeker of patterns and designs, and loves to use her artwork to explore storytelling, self-expression, mental-health, the environment, and more. Laura has a special interest in making art out of scrap or leftover materials which would otherwise be destined for landfills. She has a golden retriever named Watson, who is equal parts cuddle and trouble.
