Writing for children and teens is one of the most challenging and rewarding of creative endeavours. In this hands-on workshop, we’ll discuss what makes a great book for young readers, some of the challenges of writing for this audience, and some possible strategies for finding your way from concept to publication. Be prepared to try several writing exercises intended to strengthen your writing, regardless of your chosen genre. 

At lunch we will join Sylvia’s class and Sylvia and Nikki will discuss strategies for getting your work published.

Instructor Bio:

Nikki Tate is the award-winning author of more than 30 books, most of them for children and teenagers. She has written in all genres, both fiction and non-fiction.  From picture books and early readers for younger children to information books for middle grades, to historical, fantasy, hi-lo, and contemporary fiction for middle grades and teens, Tate has spent two decades exploring the world of children’s books. Tate has also worked as a storyteller, book reviewer for CBC radio, editor, children’s bookseller, workshop leader, and freelance writer for newspapers and magazines.
